Day 6: Pioneer
We recently blazed a walking trail through the woods on our church property. It turned out better than I expected and will provide a practical way for people to connect with God in nature and for people to build community outdoors. Upon completion of the trail, I led a small group of people on a hike to check it out. As I led the group I took in the beauty and stillness of the fall season…it was amazing. At the same time, I was enjoying the hike, I was consistently removing branches from the path that hindered progress and spider webs from my face. The rest of the group appreciated my efforts as it improved their overall experience substantially. The one that goes first takes on the brunt of the headwinds, challenges, and obstacles so that those that follow have a clearer path.
This is exactly what Jesus offers His followers. He goes first. In Hebrews 12, Jesus is called the Pioneer and Perfector of our faith. Look at Deuteronomy 31:8: “The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
God has promised that He will go before us to make a way. Our invitation is to follow the Pioneer of our faith.
Where do you sense God leading you in this season? How is God inviting you to pioneer with Him in your home, community, or place of employment?
